Once again, we took the show on the road, and our faithful fans joined us. This month Street Grindz heads over to the Tony Group Autoplex in Waipio. This was our first trip out to this side, and it was a good one.

The day started off being a warm one. It was a beautiful day out in Waipio, and not a cloud in the sky. Unfortunately, it also meant the sun was beaming right down on us. Fortunately, We had vendors like Bobalicious and Liquid pleasures on hand offering cool drinks to the masses. I cant seem to go a single event without one of these delicious POG Smoothies from Liquid Pleasures.

This time around, there was a ton of entertainment through the event. People gathered around the food trucks and the stage to enjoy live local music and hula performances.

As always, there were over 30 of your favorite food trucks and street vendors, with lots of tasty offerings for our hungry grinderz. Some of the things we got to try.
New vendor, Tripple Js Dank Dogs, were on hand with their “Goons”. Sort of like a Lumpia, but with different kinds of fillings. Beef and cheese, Spicy crab, and even a Buffalo Dog.

Another new vendor, SL2 delectables was there selling their “Chinese Tacos”. Chinese Steamed Bao with different types of filling.

There was also this delicious Pork Guisantes Pot Pie from Sweet Revenge. One of my favorite dishes of the night.

Tony Group Autoplex was on hand taking entries to win a free trip for 2 to Las Vegas. Hopefully you got your entry in. Winner will be announced soon.

The food kept flowing all night long. With your favorite food trucks slanging some of the best dishes this side of the H2.

As did the entertainment, With live performances from Nesian Nine and B.E.T.

So many things can be done with just one main ingredient. And the Tomato is a prime example. Join us for Eat The Street: Tomato, and see how your favorite Food Trucks and Street Vendors incorporate this versatile veggie, in to Good Eats!

This month all our vendors are encouraged to incorporate TOMATO into at least one dish in a creative way.
A few vendors will be selected to for a series of videos demonstration how they plan to use tomato in their dishes.

Yama-Arashi. New Ramen-Ya on wheels.

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been frequenting some of Hawaii’s popular Ramen-Ya. And while places like Goma Tei and Goma Ichi are great for your ramen fix, they lack the one thing we really love here at Street Grindz…

Wheels!

Well, looks like were in luck, because there’s a new ramen truck in town. Yama – Arashi.

Yama-Arashi is a new, Japanese style Ramen-Ya truck. Specializing in ramen and fried rice.

Theyre open for lunch up by the cosmo gas station at the top of Sheridan St. from 10am – 3pm. Definitely worth checking out.
Uniquely, This truck is also open for dinner.
We spoke to Edwin, who operates the Yama – Arashi truck, and he told us that after his lunch run, the gets a little rest, then hes right back out to serve the late night crowd.

From 6pm until around Midnight, Yama – Arashi can be found in the parking lot on the corner of Sheridan and Makaloa (across from Million Restaurant). Gret for nearby club/bar goers who are looking for something to grind in the late hours.

We went back to check out Edwin and Yama – Arashi in the evening.

We decided to see just what they had to offer, so we went with a combination of things.

First the Char Siu Ramen.

A little more expensive than their regular ramen, this one gives you 4 thick pieces of their char siu. (You get 1 piece in the regular ramen).
A hearty pork based broth, and nice warm noodles really hit the spot.

For another $3 you can get a side of their delicious fried rice.

A pretty big portion. For like $11, i was stuffed.

Then there was the Gyoza.

As good as any gyoza ive had at a brick and mortar Ramen-Ya. (And better than others, but i wont name names)

Stop by and check them out if youre in the area. Ramen on wheels? Cant go wrong.

30 of your favorite Food Trucks and Street Food vendors will gather across from
Costco Waipio.

Brought to you by Street Grindz, in partnership with Tony Group Autoplex and
Cox Communications, this month’s culinary adventure not only features amazing
grindz but live local music that will serenade your dining adventures by BET,
Nesian Nine, Kalaeloa and Halau Hula Na maka o Pu’uwaialoha. While you
are there make sure to vote for your favorite grindz and enter to win a trip to Las
Vegas courtesy of Tony Group Autoplex. The event will takes place at Tony
Group Autoplex across the street from Costco @ Waipio Gentry.

Past events have brought crowds of thousands to Hawaii’s most ono food truck
and street food vendor festival, which features more than 30 of the best food
trucks and street vendors in Honolulu.

Food trucks expected to dish out grindz include Fairycakes, Xtreme Tacos,
Jawaiian Irie Jerk, India Café, Koi 808, Aloha Pops, Simply Ono, Hawaii’s Fried
Musubi, Alonzo’s, Why’s, Local Stop and Soul Patrol, among others.

The giant jar of bacon, and the sign that adorned the table of Blanc Caterings tent really summed up the entire event.

Good Food…
Good Friends…
And a TON of bacon.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for BaconFest. This may have been the biggest one yet, and as always we couldn’t have done it without you.
Thousands of hungry grinderz joined us at our regular kakaako location (555 South St) for a very popular theme. BACON.
I mean, come on… how doesn’t like bacon?
And there was lots of it to go around. From bacon nachos, to BLT sliders. Bacon popcicles, bacon shakes, heck, even a couple of people selling bacon all by itself.

You could feel the bacon love in the air. And obviously smell and taste it. But you could even see it, with people showing up with their bacon gear.
We saw quite a few Bacon Strips shirts (shout out to the sauce bause, and epic meal time)
And if the t-shirt alone wasnt enough for you, there was this guy. From the tie down to the socks, and even his bacon tattoo (which he wrote his 2nd place winning poem about)

This was definitely one for the records. Thank you all for being a part of it.

We stopped by Ward to check out one of the newest food trucks to hit the streets. Crawfish R Us.

Taking the north shore shrimp truck concept to the next level, by giving it a Cajun twist. Crawfish R Us. is hawaiis first cajun crawfish truck. Offering crawfish by the pound, or “plate lunch” style with rice and corn. They also offer shrimp plates, and even an 80z steak plate.

Being their namesake, we just had to try the cajun style crawfish plate. Two scoops of rice. Corn, Potato, and a pile of crawfish.
For those of you who may not be familiar with crawfish, theyre kind of like little lobsters, drowned in delicious sauce. So this can get a little messy, but its just so darn good.

Being a new truck, they are still getting the hang of their schedule, so look for them at Ward (outside of sports authority), or follow them on twitter for up to date locations. ( @CrawfishRUs )

The will also be joining us at Eat The Street: Bacon tomorrow. You should too.

Yelp: Uncaged

We stopped by the last Yelp event, held at the Honolulu Zoo, to check out our good friends at Yelp Hawaii, and of course, some of our favorite mobile food vendors.
We got there for the early entry, and the line was already really long. Thats how you know its going to be a good event.
Yelpers came dressed to impress. We ran into a few of them outside, and even more inside the event.

Walking into the event we immediately ran into a few of your favorite food trucks. Just in the entry way, we spotted “Sweet Revenge”.

And just around the corner, Lola was on hand with her sweet offerings.

Other regulars like Pauls Poppers, and Street Frites were there, alongside other vendors offering delicious treats to hungry yelpers.

Its always great seeing so many great vendors in one place, whether its a block party, Eat The Street, or one of these awesome Yelp events. Especuially where so many people are dressed up to celebrate the event.

Heck, even the animals were dressed. Check out this classy chicken.

A big shout out to Emi and Thomas, and the rest of our friends at YELP. It was another great event. Thanks for having us.

Eat The Street: Kapolei | Recap

After much anticipation and many requests, Street Grinds brought the show out to the West Side with Eat The Street: Kapolei.
We took over the stadium at Kapolei High School from 3pm – 8pm, and the West Side responded.

Vendors parked in the round on the track, leaving the entire field available for walking, seating, and just generally hanging out.

New vendors like Kona Ice, Isle Creations, Pomai Kulolo, and Marks’s Specialties were on hand with new offerings for the Eat The Street crowd.
Kona Ice, with their “make your own” shave ice concept, seemed to be a big hit with the crowd.

In the center of the field was a craft/vendor section hosted by Kapolei High School, with much of the proceeds going towards their project graduation fundraiser.

The stage hosted a bunch of live entertainment throughout the event. Musicians, and even a Zumba demonstration.

It was a beautiful day in Kapolei. The weather was nice, giving people the option to just sit out on the lawn and enjoy their meals with friends and family.

Thanks for coming out to Eat The Street: Kapolei. We had a great time, and we hope you did too.
We will be back in Kapolei in July, so stay tuned West Side. We will be back.
In the meantime, look for us in Mililani, Waipio, and of course, in Kakaako on the last friday of EVERY month for our themed events.
